Some forms of collectivism utilize religion or no religion. Some religions utilize collectivism. Basic point: It is not a generic trait of collectivism to suppress religion.

Examples:
Soviet Union: No religion.
Mormon Religion: Law of consecration

Religious beliefs can increase the control of the state. Take Constantine for example. He made Christianity the state religion of his empire. This gave him not only power in this life, but power in the next as well.

Religion and politics seem to change together.

JOSH!!! I absolutely love your religion example, especially because you addressed that human beings hate not knowing the future and thus need to find some sort of answer, even if it is illogical. I think this is a characteristic attributed only to human beings and that it causes us to “blindly” follow various groups or religions, even if we seem logical in an academic or business sense. ahh I have so much to say but I am off to 3110 so we will talk then!
